About

Growing up in a predominantly Latino city, I became aware of the obstacles students faced when planning to pursue higher education. Obstacles such as teacher expectancies, discrimination and lack of resources where all contributing factors to poor educational outcomes.  I plan to conduct research in areas that explore the factors that limit Latino academic achievement and the programs that can be put in place to promote higher education.

I am committed to working with Latino community as I have done now for many years with the Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center and as a mentor. I am fortunate enough to be planning research as a McNair Scholar at Claremont Graduate University, exploring factors which inhibit college adjustment in a Latino student sample. In addition, I am participating in a research laboratory on campus to develop my research skills.

I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and become a professor. I believe that teaching is a form of public policy, and, through this position, I want to make an impact on future leaders.
